Wifey had a bad back and we had to get an MRI done. I was with her in the MRI room, where we could have no phones, no stuff to distract – so we got talking about a variety of stuff (before the nurse came in and told us to keep quiet, felt like school).
One thing we talked about was how when we visited the supermarket recently we saw more delivery guys picking up stuff than any customers themselves. The alleys were full of people in yellow, riders from Noon/Devlieroo/etc.
Why do we need supermarkets any longer. Let’s make Amazon like warehouses and an RFID based delivery system. For example – I place an order to my mobile like we do with these apps. The order goes directly to the supermarket (s), where a robot begins to collect your stuff and begins to pack. The rider has a GPS/tracker where the supermarket knows when he is due to arrive. The packet is ready, he collects and delivers. No need for the driver to step inside and keep shopping for stuff – he does what he is most efficient with – delivery.
As if my magic – I am listening to the All-In podcast this morning (recorded today) and they are discussing exactly the same idea.
